It's been awhile since I've posted another blog about a book in my book club. It's not that I haven't been reading (well, most definately not as much as when I was in school) but I just haven't gotten around to writing about one. This book, however, is more than worthy of a post. This book was recommended to Megan and me as we began our life as a married couple. Love and Respect, by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs would be in my category of must reads for all married couples. The two main topics of the book are...you guessed it, love and respect. He talks about the innermost desire of a woman is to be loved and the innermost desire of a man is to be respected. According to Eggerichs the entire marriage relationship will grow and wither based on whether or not these needs within each of the partners are being met. Here's a few quick points from the book.
*The basic premise for for the book...He reacts without love, she reacts without respect, he reacts without love, etc...
*A man spells love to his wife C-O-U-P-L-E: Closeness, Openness, Understanding, Peacemaking, Loyalty, and Esteem.
*A woman spells respect to her husband C-H-A-I-R-S: Conquest, Hierarchy, Authority, Insight, Relationsip, and Sexuality.
If I had to sum the message of this book up in one line it would be this: For a marriage to grow a woman must respect her husband unconditionally and a husband must love his wife unconditionally.

This is one of the most amazing books I've ever read. The church I attend did the "Love and Respect" series 2 summers ago and it truely opened my eyes to how different God made men and women, not wrong just different.
I am not yet married, but the biblical information in this book I pray will be very useful for me and my future spouse. This book can truely change a persons marriage!
